Arabic Language Program

Siraj Institute provides a comprehensive Arabic Language Program (ALP) with a focus on Islamic culture and language. Designed to cater to learners of all levels, our program offers a structured curriculum spanning five proficiency levels. Each level can be completed in 3 months (one semester).

The program covers all four skills pertaining to language learning: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Our instructors are native Arabic speakers who are highly experienced in teaching Arabic as a second language. Our students get opportunities to immerse in the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world through our program’s cultural activities, guest speakers, and events.

 

Eligibility: We are currently only accepting students above 16 years of age for the Arabic Language Program.

Syllabus: We use “Al-Asas for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers” [Authored by Dr. Fawzieh Ahmad Bader, published by NoorArt, Inc., Texas, USA]. A book is provided to every student in the program.

Level 1: Primer (التمهيدي):

Objective: Introduce learners to the basics of the Arabic language, including the alphabet, pronunciation, and simple vocabulary.

  • Letters of the alphabet with their short and long sounds,
  • Short dialogues that teach students to introduce themselves simply and to respond to greetings,
  • Numbers from 1 to 20, and
  • Demonstratives (this/these)

 

Level 2: Beginner I (الابتدائي):

Objective: Build upon the foundation established in Level 1 by expanding vocabulary, improving pronunciation, and enhancing communication skills.

  • Eleven lessons with dialogues from daily life teaching students how to communicate with the Arab community,
  • Grammatical and morphological rules,
  • A list of the vocabulary at the beginning of each lesson and its English translation
  • Review exercises

 

Level 3: Beginner II (الابتدائي):

Objective: Develop advanced beginner-level proficiency in Arabic by focusing on grammar, vocabulary expansion, and comprehension of varied texts.

  • Thirteen lessons with dialogues from daily life teaching students how to communicate with the Arab community,
  • Grammatical and morphological rules that help in understanding and speaking Arabic,
  • Enrichment texts (poems, articles, or dialogues related to the subject of the lesson),
  • A list of the vocabulary at the beginning of each lesson and its English translation,
  • Review exercises

 

Level 4: Intermediate I (المتوسط):

Objective: Attain intermediate proficiency in Arabic through in-depth study of grammar, advanced vocabulary, and cultural nuances.

  • Eleven lessons with dialogues from daily life, global politics, and the Arab world and culture,
  • Grammatical and morphological rules that help in understanding and speaking Arabic,
  • Intermediate-level enrichment texts (poems, articles, or dialogues related to the subject of the lesson),
  • Exercises that cover the four skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening),
  • Students will be able to participate in debates and presentations, understand nuanced texts, and produce well-structured essays and reports,
  • A list of the vocabulary at the beginning of each lesson and its English translation, and
  • Review exercises

 

Level 5: Intermediate II (المتوسط):

Objective: Reach near-native proficiency in Arabic language and culture, with a focus on refinement and mastery.

  • Thirteen lessons with texts about politics, economics, history, Arab culture, and some ancient and modern personalities,
  • Grammatical and morphological rules that help in understanding and speaking Arabic,
  • Enrichment text and a listening text in each lesson, and
  • Review exercises

 

Students who wish to continue in our Diploma in Islamic Studies (DIS) program, will be able to continue further in Arabic language with advanced-level classes.
